Canceled NinjaResponder/A-weber For A Better Auto-Responder

Back on August 7, I posted I had canceled my NinjaResponder (branded A-weber) auto-responder account for what looked like a more comprehensive service. Today I can verify that the new service, MailChimp (MC) (http://budurl.com/TGSMC), is what I hoped and a lot more.

It took awhile to get the auto-response portion of the optin process working on my blog because the service is primarily an email list service, but it does provide an immediate email function for new subscribers using redirection to a signup page.  To see, just click on the Subscribe button above or the Subscribe page at the right sidebar. No this is not a ploy to get you to subscribe.

Enter no info, and/or a badly formed email address and see what MailChimp produces. If a good email address is entered along with a first name, MC will show a page that asks the subscriber to look for a confirmation email. This prevents automated spam processing.

The entire confirmation process is handled by MC and I am notified via email with the info about the new subscriber as well as the new subscriber receiving a welcome email.

All these emails and displayed pages are in the theme of my blog site. All my blog posts will be emailed to all or a group of designated subscribers. The service is perfect for split testing email campaigns that include much more than blog posts.

There are numerous easy-to-follow short videos that are lively, well produced, and very instructive. MC does not take itself too seriously, but provides some seriously professional services even at the beginning level which is free. All the above features mentioned are free, designed, built, and implemented with the custom appearance of my blog.

The free service requires an MC logo/link on your pages, but if anyone clicks through, it’s your affiliate link, which means the service potentially could more than pay for itself. It’s a great way to start an auto-responder even without considering it costs nothing to support up to  100 subscribers mailing up to 6 times per month. My A-weber account cost me $19/month and I had only subscriber for several months.

I’m sold, well, actually I haven’t paid for anything yet. When I have 100 subscribers who are receiving mailings from me six times per month, there will be cash flow for the next level: $10/month for up to 500 subscribers with unlimited mailings. Now, that’s a good deal!

Click on the MC icon in the sidebar and check MC out. It won’t cost you anything and, like me, you’ll be glad you did.

If anyone is interested, I’ll explain how I got the MC pages and emailing to resemble my blog theme, and, more importantly, how to get a subscribe button redirecting to your subscriber processing on the MailChimp server. It’s not hard, but it’s not intuitive.

My friend and I were recently talking about technology, and how integrated it has become to our daily lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don’t mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside… I just hope that as the price of memory falls, the possibility of transferring our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It’s a fantasy that I daydream about almost every day.

To get a tiny perspective on computer technology, I attended a computer conference on memory where one of the speakers likened the then six orders of magnitude in memory advances to a 1940 Ford sedan that after undergoing the same amount of change would move at 17,500 mph, get 25,000 mpg, be about the size of a shoe box, and cost 10 cents. That conference was held 30 years ago when 1 meg of RAM cost thousands of dollars. Thanks for your comment.
